Cygnet Release Notes 1.1.3.51 (August 7, 2010)

finally we are in the position to release the next Cygnet Update: version 1.1.3.51
As always, this update is free of charge and can be downloaded from the eeginfo.ch web page.

We actually intended to release a full new Cygnet version before last Christmas- unfortunately, there were delays and more delays. Main reason was the release of Windows 7 by Microsoft as well as the transition to 64bit systems. This operating system release was done in a rush due to the Windows Vista disaster- as a result, Microsoft released a half-ready system which required frequent updates- developing for such a platform is like shooting on a moving target ;-) I think we will be able to release a full version after Microsoft released Service Pack I.

There are quite many improvements in this Cygnet release- most important:
- frequency range extended to 0.0001Hz ... 70Hz
- new Advanced Media Player
- improved driver, which doesn't require manual installation anymore

How to install:

Notices:
1. Please do a backup- either a full system backup or just the Cygnet folder. The easiest way to backup the Cygnet folder is: goto c:\program files, find the Cygnet folder. Then, just copy paste it- Windows will create a copy in the program folders folder
2. BioExplorer: If you work with BioExplorer on the same computer, please do a full system backup before installing this Cygnet update. We had instances where DVD feedback in BioExplorer didn't work after installing this update
3. Please do not install this update (as any other software) right before you see clients - in case something goes wrong, we should have enough time to check and fix things.

For installation of this update, you need to have any 1.1.3.x version. If you are using an older version, please install 1.1.3 first (you'll find that on the DVD we mailed early last year, or on your NeuroAmp Resource DVD).

The installer consists of two files (background: Microsoft Windows Vista and 7 scan executable files- in case of our full installer that process could take up to 5 minutes; therefore we decided to split the installer in two files with a very small executable):

www.eeginfo.ch/fileadmin/filemanager/files/Software/Cygnet/Cygnet_update.1.1.3.51.exe
www.eeginfo.ch/fileadmin/filemanager/files/Software/Cygnet/Cygnet_update.1.1.3.51-1.bin
Please download both files, store them in some folder and run the file "Cygnet_update.1.1.3.51.exe".

This Cygnet Update is based on a newer Java version resulting a shorter loading time of Cygnet. However, we had problems on some test machines- Cygnet crashed when attempting to close it after it ran at least a couple of minutes. In case you experience that problem, install this patch, which contains an earlier Java version:
www.eeginfo.ch/fileadmin/filemanager/files/Software/Cygnet/Cygnet_update.1.1.3.51-patch.exe
Please also inform us about this.

Main modifications:
- new feedback game Toy Train Adventure added
- DVD Feedback improved
- 2 Channel Sum now with artifact remover; reward frequency extended to 40Hz
- Trend Display: moving time axes, spectral history with inverted colors in report
- Cygnet Reports saved as PDF files
- Record button can be pressed anytime in a session to add session notes
- many little improvements

In Detail:

Toy Train Adventure Game:
This game has been developed for little kids and autistic children. This Cygnet update contains Toy Train Adventure as trial version; Licence codes can be ordered from now on. The price is EUR 249 +VAT

DVD Feedback:
The Cygnet DVD player is now based on the Windows Media Player. If you can play a DVD with Windows Media Player, the Cygnet player will also work. Note that Windows Media Player uses the DVD decoder of third-party software such as Cyberlink PowerDVD or Corel WinDVD.

2 Channel Sum:
We added an artifact detector and extended the reward frequency range to 0.001Hz ... 40Hz

Cygnet Reports:
From this Cygnet update on, Cygnet always stores a session, even if the record button is not pressed at the beginning. If it is pressed later and client information is entered, the session will be saved from its beginning (not just from the record button moment on) in the client folder. Also, the session report will be saved in PDF format in that folder.
Also new in this update is the session notes featuere: The record button can be pressed at any time to add more session notes. The report will then show all notes with a time stamp.

Trend Display:
The trend display does not automatically open anymore, it can now be opened via the Measurement menu. Also, closing it will not close Cygnet anymore. The time axes have been modified such that they move with the history. This makes it easier to match session notes with the time axis.
Also, we inverted the color scheme for the spectral history in the report. By that, the background color is now white, which will save printer color ;-)
